Study area
The study area encompasses the 44 mile length of the Jordan River corridor in Utah, Salt Lake and Davis Counties. Because nearby land influences the beauty and viability of the river, the study area also includes a corridor up to a ½ mile wide on both sides of the river.
Project goals
Blueprint Jordan River has five goals that emphasize coordination of local planning efforts, a partnership among the jurisdictions bordering the Jordan River, as well as the opportunity for public participation to generate new ideas and test existing ideas for the long-term future of the river corridor.
- Update the 1971 Jordan River Parkway master plan by creating a vision of the ideal corridor to inform implementation efforts.
- Coordinate the existing plans, including: local open space, recreation, urban design and trails plans, as well as the Watershed Quality Stewardship Plan, the Open Space Trust Fund efforts, and the Jordan River Parkway Trail Master Plan, among others. The vision will seek to identify and address any inconsistencies between existing plans. Efforts will be made to avoid the duplication of efforts and to ensure the reciprocity of project elements relating to the Jordan River Corridor.
- Promote understanding of the importance of the corridor/parkway, recognizing it as a regional environmental, recreational, educational and economic amenity.
- Create a best practices resource available to communities to assist in taking steps to implement the vision for the river.
- Create a common set of data and a mechanism for sharing information. A website hosting information about the river and trail system as well as past, present and future studies, projects, etc.., should be made readily available to the public.
